Why I made this box
I've journeyed through the ebbs and flows of motherhood's vivid tapestry. The contrast between my earlier beautiful and transformative birthing experiences with my oldest and middle daughters and the challenging journey with my last birth, induced due to preeclampsia, painted a starkly different picture. Peering at my newborn through a thin veil, barely touching her hand before she was rushed to the NICU for a 52-day stay, was an experience that reshaped my perspective.
The transition into motherhood following that experience was different—a tangle of fear, exhaustion, and lingering trauma. Healing has been an ongoing process. My story echoes the narrative of countless Black and Brown women facing similar challenges in maternity care.
The statistics are sobering: 50% of post-birth maternity complications occur after delivery. Black and Brown women face a higher likelihood of perinatal mood disorders, often suffering in silence. This urgency drove me to act.
Our initiative is more than just a box; it's a doorway to knowledge that guides, empowers, and supports expecting mothers as they prepare for the postpartum journey. We stand out as the sole postpartum box offering not just healing products and self-care essentials, but also an array of educational videos and PDFs to navigate this crucial phase.
